In their exhibition area in the first floor there are permanent changing exhibitions – because of the photosensitivity of the pieces - with works on paper from the house-own inventories as well as loan collections are shown. Generated out of the foundation of the Deutschen Werkbundes (German Work Federation) 1907 in Munich and established as a national museum since 1925. Its permanent exhibition for the first time shows the history and development of the designs and the applied arts from 1900 to the present. It is one of the international leading museums for applied arts of the modernity – for industrial design it is even the world wide most connotatively one. Particularly shown are inventories to the topics car design, computer culture, designs of adornments, every day objects and furniture like the Thonet-Collection.

The collection of the architectural museum of the TU Munich is the biggest of her kind in Germany and finally found its own place in the Pinakothek of modern arts. The exhibitions want to arouse the interest of all groups of visitors for architecture and establish understanding for architecture.
