The Ludwig-Maxialians-University Munich (abreviation: LMU or Uni Munich) which was founded 1472 and is named after its founders duke Ludwig the rich and the elector Max IV Joseph from Bavaria (the later King Maximilian I) is the biggest university of Germany in spite of two changes of location.

The LMU is not a characteristic Campus-University but distributed over several locations.

The number of scholars crested peaked out in 1990 with 65.000 students. At the moment more then 44000 students are registered. 657 professors are teaching in 18 faculties.
