The Wieskirche, built by the brothers Johann Baptist and Dominikus Zimmermann from 1745 to 1754, is a really glorious church of pilgrimage. It is situated in Wies in the commune of Steingaden, part of the so called Pfaffenwinkel in Bavaria. The Church is one of the most accurate creations of rococo. 1983 it was declared world cultural heritage from the UNESCO. From 1985 to 1991 the church was restaurated with 10,6 billion Marks.

The church of pilgrimage is consecrated to the Castigated Redeemer. 1730 Father Magnus Straub and Brother Lukas Schweiger created this statue in the convent of Steingaden in Upper Bavaria.

Today the church is a place for regular performances of church concerts. More than one billion people visit the Wieskirche each year.

The big events in the Wieskirche are:
- 1st of May – beginning of the Year of Pilgrimage
- 14th of June or the following Sunday is the Feast of the Tears of Christ
- First Sunday in September: Feast fo the guardian angels to remember the church anniversary
- Second Sunday in October: Feast of the Brotherhood of the Castigated Redeemer on the Wies.

The Easter-Liturgies are also perpetrated very solemnly. At the Wieskircher there exists the "Confraternitas Domini Nostri Flagellati" (Brotherhood of the Castigated Redeemer on the Wies). The members apply themselves to the special worship of the Castigated Redeemer. The Brotherhood consists of more than 350 members, composed of priests and laymen.
